Earlier this year, we were approached by Festival Place Shopping Centre in Basingstoke to see if Sing Now Choir could help make their 15th Birthday celebration standout. Festival Place opened on Tuesday, 22 October 2002 and houses over 200 shops including large stores such as Zara, Next, Debenhams, Marks and Spencer and Apple Store. The marketing team found us through watching the video of our flashmob at Westquay Shopping Centre earlier this year.
Together we came up with the idea of a surprise performance from Sing Now Choir on Saturday the 14th of October 2017. Around 70 of our singers travelled from our three choirs in Southampton, Fareham and Bournemouth. Posing as shoppers scattered across the lower ground shopping floor, dead on 11am, Festival Place customers started to hear the familiar chords of Disney’s latest smash hit soundtrack – Moana (How Far I’ll Go). A handful of our members started the song by walking into the middle of the focal space and by the chorus we had a whole choir of voices belting out a four-part harmony. As soon as the song finished, we picked up our shopping bags and quickly dispersed as if nothing ever happened, leaving the customers pleasantly surprised. Around 30 minutes later we then performed 3 sets of live music for Festival Place throughout the day, which attracted a busy crowd of audience members. We streamed the flashmob live on our Facebook page and within 1 day of going online, it received over 60,000 views!
