In March 2016, we celebrated our first year anniversary! Over the past year Sing Now Choir has grown each week and we’re having so much fun. What did we achieve in our first year?
In 2015 we were lucky enough to perform at a variety of gigs. Our first performance was at Locks Heath Shopping Village in August. It was a lovely sunny day making this the perfect atmosphere for our first public gig. The event was organised by Fareham Arts Festival and we were honoured to be invited to sing. We shared the stage with The Singing Spectrum Choir, The Igloo Choir, and West Hill Park Community Choir.
Sing Now Choir were busy in the Southampton city centre too! We were invited to perform as part of Music In The City at Holy Rood church in October 2015. Luckily for us, it was a beautiful sunny day again! Towards the end of October we also had the unique opportunity to perform inside of a ship container to show our support for the So To Speak Festival.
Towards the end of the year, Sing Now Choir were invited to provide entertainment for the Christmas lights switch on event in Southampton city centre and Locks Heath Shopping Village. The two separate events were very festive, giving us the opportunity to perform our Christmas songs: Silent Night, Rocking Around The Christmas Tree and Merry Christmas Everybody. Being November, we weren’t very lucky with the weather! However, we are based in the UK and we can’t expect sunshine at every performance! The main thing is that the audience were uplifted and distracted from the bad weather by Sing Now and the City mayor Councillor Linda Norris couldn’t thank us enough for braving the rain! In December 2015 we ended the year with two very different performances. On Sunday the 6th of December we took part in the Christmas Candlelight Service at East Cliff United Reformed Church, Bournemouth. It was a delightful service topped of with some warm mince pies afterwards. The second performance of the month was at Fairthorne Manor, where we were invited to sing Christmas songs as the visitors queued to meet Father Christmas himself! Although it was cold, the rain held off and we even managed to get a picture with Olaf from Disney’s Frozen.
It’s fair to say that 2015 was a huge success for our first year at Sing Now Choir. So that we could take a well earned rest, we rounded it off with a fun Christmas social in each choir location. 2016 is already shaping up to be another busy year of performances, keep up to date by liking our Facebook page.
